Assignment C

Becoming a designer is something that was a passion even as a child for Michael Bierut. Everyone’s perspective on design can be different but how it allows many to come together and unite is one of the many ideas as to how he identities his passion for design.

An advice that Bierut gives is to really slow down and think through the problem which may seem difficult for many younger designers who are hungry for opportunities.

Logos are there for the audience to identify a company and all its work rather than to explain. Rand says, “Should a logo be self-explanatory? It is only by association with a product, a service, a business, or a corporation that a logo takes on any real meaning.” . At the end of the day the logo is there for identification the rest falls on the company itself.

Jerry Uelsmann’s art word is spectacular as it combines many images into one. The way that he combines them is in such a way that makes you wish that was the case in real life. My favorite has to be Untitled, 1976. Although they are all in black and white, there really doesn’t need to be any color to add such emotion and emphasis on nature’s true beauty. In this he adds beauty of real life and music. In many others its nature and fantasy. This just goes to show that color can make an impact but a picture in itself is marvelous.

It can always be intimidating to want to have a blog and be successful since now there are many people who are doing it. At first it was a great way to share your ideas with a very simple blog but now, it has become a competition for many. The 6 steps to having a successful design blog is to

  1. spend a lot of time reading other design blogs
  2. find a niche
  3. market your blog as a valuable resource
  4. connect with others though social media
  5. its all about content
  6. create a professional theme

From this, I think it really related a lot to how Seth created his own blog. He has found ways to connect with various groups of people. His blog is simple yet professional. Everything is organized in a way where you couldn’t possibly get lost. Also, the starts allow others to rate his blogs which can be very beneficial later on when reviewing what needs to be improved.

As technology advances, so does what we see in books. A lot of the times we say don’t judge a book by its cover, but we’re human and that is at times what tends to happen. It seemed interesting how Kidd brought to light all the things that people would do. But comparing a book to a haiku, now that is something new yet seems right. There are many pages and words in a book but a designer comes and takes those concepts and manifests them into one design that sets the tone for the reader. A lot can go into designing a book. Whether it be purposefully having a book ruined or having them be paintings that come to life on a shelf, designing a book is more than some may see.

Assignment B

Reviewing one of Yulianna’s final piece, the one of the woman fading, really made an impact when it came to comparing it to her theme. It’s crazy to think how far this world has come with respect to abortion laws. When seeing what the abortion laws are around the world, very few places have prohibited it all together. So in a way, a women’s right to get an abortion is still a little faded but not gone and still working towards becoming an option. Based on this final piece, it was clear that there was a lot of thought that went into putting the texture with a women looking tough in a serious way.

Assignment A – Patricia Castillo

Looking at Evan Zuppani’s post about different types of blogs that exists, it was interesting how he was able to analyze Seth’s Blog on the various ways one can create a blog. It was all very informative and eyeopening as to how Boing Boing can be a website geared towards getting more clicks but is still very opinionated, for example the book article. The different formats allow a different feel for each blog and yet they all work in a way that becomes unnoticeable until you take the time and see as to why they had laid it out that way. All in all, Evan portrayed a good review on the various article layouts that exist.

Bad Design, Great Signs

Its interesting as to what he brings up when it comes to the design of it all. We tend to think that design is just on something drawn on a board or fashion, but rather in a protest, there’s a design in how the protests unite different “elements” , in this case people, together to form one voice.

One thing that comes to mind is the idea of making your own signs rather than using a manufactured sign and the impact it can make. They’re both a hit or miss but at least it being handwritten, you’re still following what has been done for generations and not conforming to the machine ways that we’ve come to be accustomed to. The message that comes across is what really impacts people.

How To Get Traffic For Your Blog

Just the title itself was short sweet and to the point. It was more as if he was having a conversation rather than making it seem so formal. What did seem interesting was how he just casually added in his post about shark attacks. It seemed a little our of place but it is an introduction. His use of lists here allows the users to take what he says and use it in any way a reader may want to.

Ideo Says The Future Of Design Is Circular

Having the mindset of “take, make, dispose” is still something that many struggle with. However, the growth in knowing how much harm is being done to the planet and others is something that has allowed a lot of change to occur. Finding new ways to reuse product and still be efficient, ascetically pleasing, and practical helps transition those who may not be fully willing to change their “style” for the greater good.

Rereading my childhood: The Snarkout Boys and the Avocado of Death

The idea of going back to the childhood days when things were simpler and the innocence that a child has. There’s a sense of nostalgia that comes with looking back at big moments from the past but even the little ones such as a book.

The 9 Best Programming Languages to Learn in 2019

Coding is a huge part of my life so to see how they are arranging the order of the languages seemed interesting. One language that really stood out was Rust, just because of the difficulty and how a professor of mine really was shocked as to how many people were for it. Design wise, this page really did bring out a lot of the aspects that was emphasized in having read the blogs with a little description as to what my passions are.
